Objects and Things


Aconite - Plant used in potions. Also known as monkshood or wolfbane.

Advanced Potion-Making - textbook written by Libatius Borage, copy of which Harry Potter discovered had belonged to the Half-Blood Prince.

Age Line, The - A line drawn by Dumbledore around the Goblet of Fire to ensure that younger students were not able to participate. (vol 4, p. 275)

Alchemy - Medieval science that was founded on the search to turn metal into gold.

Amortentia - The most powerful love potion in the world, which causes infatuation or obsession. (Vol. 6 pp. 185, 186)

Arithmancy - ancient study of the magical properties of numbers.

Auto-Answering Quills - Cheating decice banned from the examination hall during O.W.L.s. (vol. 5, p. 708)

Axminster - A type of carpet originally manufactured in Axminster, England. (vol. 4, p. 91)

Balaclava - A kind of heavy, very warm covering for the head and shoulders. (vol. 5, p. 865)

Ban on Experimental Breeding - ( vol. 5, p. 129)

Baruffio's Brain Elixer - Gives the brain a boost. Used to improve O.W.L. test scores. (vol. 5, p. 708)

Bezoar - Stone taken from the stomach of a goat. Will counteract most poisons.

Bludgers - Black balls that try and knock players off their brooms in Quidditch.

Boxing Day - An English holiday. (vol. 4, p. 433).

Broomstick Servicing Kit - A black leather case containing Fleetwood's High Finish Handle Polish, tail-twig clippers, compass, and a Do-it-Yourself Broomcare Handbook. A 13th birthday present for Harry from Hermoine.

Bubbadox Powder - Causes boils. (vol. 5, p. 226)

Bubotubers - Ugly plants that look like thick, black, giant slugs, which when squeezed emit a valuable pus, used in the treatment of acne. (vol. 4, p. 194-195)

Charm - Spell that adds properties to an object or person.

Cobbing - Excessive use of elbows; cause for a penalty in Quidditch. (vol 4, p. 109-110)

Comet Two Sixty - An old style broom. (vol. 5, p.53)

Confusing and Befuddlement Draughts - Made from scurvy grass, lovage, sneezerwort; produces hot-headedness and recklessness. (vol. 5, p. 384)

Corporeal Patronus - A fully fledged patronus; has a clearly defined form, not just vapor and smoke.(vol. 5, p. 141)

Counter Curse - Used to remand a curse. (vol. 2, p. 13)

D.A. - (See Dumbledore's Army). ( vol. 5, p. 392 )

Daily Prophet - The Wizard newspaper.

Dark Detector - A secrecy sensor used by Moody, that vibrates when it detects concealment and lies. Dark Detectors include Sneakoscopes and Foe-Glasses. (vol. 4, p. 343 & vol 5, p. 391)

Dark Mark - A colossal skull, comprised of emerald stars, with the serpent protruding from its mouth like a tongue. You-Know-Who's sign that was spotted in the sky during the Quidditch Cup. (vol. 4, p. 128-129)

Deathday Party - A celebration held by Nearly Headless Nick, to commemorate the day he died, to which Harry and his friends are invited. (vol. 2, p. 130)

Decoy Detonators - horn-type object that is dropped surreptitiously and will then run off and make a loud noise out of sight, creating a diversion. (vo. 6, p. 119)

Defense Against the Dark Arts - Magic lessons at Hogwarts that teach students how to defend themselves against evil creatures.

Defensive Magical Theory - A book by Wilbert Slinkhard. ( vol. 5. )

Deflating Draft - Potion that counteracts a swelling solution. Causes swollen body parts to return to normal size.

Dementor's Kiss - What dementors use when they want to utterly destroy someone; they clamp their jaws upon the mouth of their victim, and suck out their soul. The victim is left with no sense of self, no memory; they become empty shells. This was to be performed on Sirius Black, as ordered by the Ministry of Magic. (vol. 3, p. 247, vol. 5, p. 34)

Destination, determination, deliberation - Three things to remmber when apparatiing. (vol. 6, p. 384)

Detachable Cribbing Cuff - Useful tool for cheating on O.W.L.s. (vol. 5)

Devil's Snare - A plant with strong, snake-like tendrils that likes the dark and damp, and is weakened by light and warmth. (vol. 1, p. 277) A plant that can kill whoever touches it. (vol. 5, p. 547)

Dittany - cure for scarring. (vol. 6, p. 525)

Divination - Magical art of telling the future.

Dr. Ubbly's Oblivious Unction - Used to get rid of bad thoughts that can scar the brain. (vol. 5, p. 847)

Doing a Weasley - Jumping on a broom and departing Hogwarts forever. (vol. 5, p. 676)

Doxycide - Used to paralyze Doxies. (vol.5, p. 103)

Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus. - The Hogwarts motto: Never tickle a sleeping dragon.

Dragon Skin Gloves - Worn by Hogwarts students as a protection from the extreme cold. (vol. 5, p.401)

Draught of the Living Death - Powerful sleeping potion. In Harry's sixth term Prof. Slughorn told the students to make this. The winner of the best Draught of Living Death would receive a bottle of Felix Felicis. (vol. 6, p. 188)

Draught of Peace - A potion to calm anxiety and soothe agitation. If the draught is not prepared properly the drinker may fall into a "heavy and sometimes irreversible sleep." (vol. 5, p. 232)

The Dream Oracle - A book on dream interpretation by Inigo Imago. (vol. 5)

Dumbledore's Army - Made up of 28 students who are loyal to Dumbledore. (vol. 5)

Dumbledore's Ring - large, rather clumsily made of a gold substance, set with a heavy black stone, cracked down the middle. (vol. 6, p. 215)

Elixir of Life - Potion produced by the Philosopher's (Sorcerer's) Stone that will make the drinker immortal.

Evening Prophet - Wizarding newspaper.

Exams - O.W.L.s, Ordinary Wizardry Levels; N.E.W.T.s, Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (highest qualification Hogwart's offers).

Extendable Ears - Thin flesh-colored pieces of string invented by Fred & George Weasley used to acquire secret information (vol. 5, p. 67)

Fanged Frisbies - banned from Hogwarts in Harry's sixth year. (vol. 6, p. 172)

Feigning Illness Aids - Puking Pastilles; Nosebleed Nouguts; Fainting Fancies. Invented by George and Fred Weasley. Used as a means to get out of a class. (vol. 5, p. 253)

Felix Felicis - A potion that is described as "liquid luck," which makes the drinker's endeavors succeed. People do not drink it all the time because if taken in excess, it causes giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence; banned in organized competitions. (vol. 6 p. 187)

Firebolt - Fastest most technologically advanced broomstick. Can accelerate from 0-150 miles per hour in ten seconds.

First Kiss - Shared by Harry & Cho in Room of Requirement after final meeting of D.A. (vol. 5, p. 456)

Flagrate - Imprints a fiery red cross to differentiate one place from another. (vol.5, p, 772)

Floo Powder - A glittery powder used to help witches travel from one place to another. Throw it into the fire, say the name of your destination, and step into the flames.

Foe-Glass - Moody uses this to keep an eye on his enemies. (vol. 4, p. 343)

Ford Anglia - The make of Mr. Weasley's enchanted car.

Gifts - Hagrid gives (gift #2) to the giant chief "A nice battle helmut, goblin-made and indestructible( vol. 5, p. 428) See also Gubraithian Fire.

Git - A British slang word for an idiot. (vol. 5, p. 441 )

Gnomes - Very small creatures that live in holes in gardens. They have leathery skin and large bald heads. To de-gnome a garden, grab the gnome by the ankles and swing it around your head, and then throw.

Goblet of Fire - A large rough-hewn wooden cup, filled to the brim with dancing blue-white flames into which aspiring champions can drop their names, if they want to participate in the Triwizard Tournament. (vol. 4, pp. 256-257) The goblet will return the names of three deemed most worthy to represent their schools. Placed on the stool that normally held the Sorting Hat. (Vol. 4, p.259)

Gobstones - A wizarding game like marbles, in which the stones squirt a nasty-smelling liquid into the other player's face when they lose a point. (vol. 3, p. 50)

Golden Cup - belongs to Helga Hufflepuff.

Golden Snitch - Small golden ball with silver wings used in Quidditch. Must be caught by seeker in order to end the match.

Golpalott's Third Law - the antidote for a blended potion will be equal to more than the sum of the antidotes for each of the separate components. (vol. 6, p. 374) Gregory the Smarmy - Statue at Hogwarts.

Grim - A giant black dog taken to be a death omen.

Gubraithian Fire - A branch of everlasting fire; Hagrid gave this gift of magic Gift # 1) to the giant chief Karkus. (vol. 5, p. 428 ) See also Gifts

Gurdyroot - good for warding off Gulping Plimpies. (vol. 6, p. 425)

Harry's Complete Name & Address - (vol. 5, p.138)

Healer's Helpmate - book of curses. (vol. 6, p. 100) Herbology - Study of plants. Professor Sprout is the teacher.

Hogwart Banners - Red with gold lion - Gryffindor; blue with bronze eagle - Ravenclaw; yellow with black badger - Hufflepuff; green with silver serpent - Slytherin. (vol. 4, p.237)

Hogwarts Coat of Arms - lion, eagle, badger, and snake united around a large letter "H." (vol. 4, p. 237)

Hogwarts, The History of - (vol. 4, p. 176-77)

Horcrux - an object which, by means of a spell placed on it, contains a piece of the soul of a wizard who had committed murder, the supreme act of evil. (vol. 6, p. 498)

Hourglasses, Giant - Record House points; set in niches along the wall. (vol. 5, p. 626)

House-Elf Liberation Front - A name that Ron made up for a group that supports improved rights for house-elves. (vol. 4, p. 374)

Howler - A letter in a red envelope which, when opened, emits an explosive roar of sound. The voice of the person who sent it can be heard piercing the air. Usually sent by parents when they have a complaint to their children. After delivery of a Howler, the red envelope bursts into flames. (vol. 2, p. 87)

Inferi - dead bodies that have been bewitched to do a Dark Wizard's bidding. (vol. 6, p. 62)

Initials L. E. - Lily Evans. Harry's mother's maiden name. (vol. 5, p. 647)

Inquisitorial Squad - A select group of students who support the Ministry of Magic; distinguished by a tiny silver "I" badge; handpicked by professor Umbridge; have power to deduct points from the various houses; Draco Malfoy is a member. (vol. 5, p. 626)

Invisibility Cloak - Long and silvery; Harry inherited it from his dad.

Kwikspell - A correspondence course in beginner's magic. (vol. 2, p. 127)

Legilimency - The ability to extract feelings and memories from another person's mind. (The Dark Lord is very skilled at this). Eye contact is often essential, although with Harry and Voldemort this does not seem to be a hindrance. (vol. 5, p.530-531 )

Lines - A writing punishment for bad behavior. (vol. 5, p. 417)

Magic Incantations - Expelliarmus; Rictusempra; Tarantallegra; Serpentsortia, etc. See also Spells and Charms section.

Magic Wand, Harry's - A very rare and unique wand containing a phoenix feather from Fawke, Dumbledore's phoenix.

Mandrake Restorative Draught - Studied in Herbology class (vol. 2, p. 92); used by Madame Pomfrey to de-petrify Mrs. Norris and others after they met up with the Serpent of Slytherin (vol. 2, p. 330).

The Marauder's Map - Shows every detail of the Hogwart's castle and its grounds, as well as the location of every living thing at Hogwarts. To get the map to work, one has to say "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." When you are through, touch the wand lightly and say, "Mischief managed," and the map will then go blank. (vol. 3, p. 193)

Mermish - The language of the merpeople.

Metamorph Medals - (hoax Deatheater protection) just sling one around your neck and you are able to change your appearance at will - cost: 10 galleons.

Metamorphmagus - They are very rare, born, not made; can change appearance at will. (vol. 5, p. 52)

Mimbulus Mimbletonia - Very rare, small species of cactus that pulsates slightly, with boils instead of spines; resembles a diseased organ; when poked, a thick green liquid that smells like rancid manure, squirts from every boil. Neville owns one. (vol. 5, p. 186 & 865)

Mirror of Erised - Enables one to see what they most want to see - "The most desperate desire of my heart." Erised is desire spelled backward. (For Harry, it is his dead parents.) (vol. 1, p. 209)

Monkshood - Plant used in potions. Also known as aconite or wolfsbane.

Monster Book of Monsters - Large green book of monsters. Required reading for third years. Must be stroked down the spine or it will bite your fingers.

Muggle Studies - Class taken by wizarding folk to study non-magical people.

N.E.W.T.'s - Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests. Higher level examinations at Hogwarts.

Nimbus 2000 - Type of broomstick. Harry's first broomstick.

Nimbus 2001 - The successor to the Nimbus 2000.

Occlumency - A special class that teaches magical defense of the mind against external penetration; seals the mind against magical intrusion and influence. Only someone skilled at Occlumency is able to shut down those feelings and memories that contradict the lie, hence is able to utterfalsehoods without detection. Dumbledore urges Harry to study this to protect himself from Voldemort. An obscure but highly useful type of magic; taught by Snape. (vol. 5, pp. 530-531)

Omnioculars - Binoculars that can replay action. They slow everything down, and do play-by-play; covered with weird knobs and dials. (vol. 4, p. 93)

Order of the Phoenix - A loyal group of followers led by Dumbledore; an organization devoted to stopping Voldemort from getting more followers. (vol. 5, pp. 92-93)

O.W.L.'s - Ordinary Wizarding Levels. The standard-level examinations at Hogwarts; given to fifth year students. (vol. 1, p. 55 & vol. 5, p. 226)

Parselmouth - One who can talk to snakes.

Parseltongue - A language spoken by a Parselmouth.

Patronus - An anti-dementor, a guardian that acts as a shield between you and a dementor. A "positive force, a projection of the very things that the dementor feeds upon - hope, happiness, the desire to survive - but it cannot feel despair, as real humans can, so the dementor's can't hurt it." Each patronus is unique to the wizard who conjures it. To conjure a patronus "you have to concentrate with all your might, on a single, very happy memory." (vol. 3, p. 237) See also corporeal Patronus. Takes the form of a stag. (vol. 7, p. 204)

Pensieve - A shallow stone basin which contains a silver substance which constantly moves and changes. It is used to siphon-off excess thoughts and memories from one's mind. Then the thoughts and memories can be examined at one's leisure. (vol. 4, p. 583; vol. 5, pp. 529-530)

Philosopher's Stone - What the British call the Sorcerer's Stone. See Sorcerer's Stone

Phoenix Song - A sound of hope that Harry hears when his situation seems very bleak. (vol. 4, p. 664)

Pocket Sneakoscope - Lights up and spins if someone untrustworthy is around.

Pointed Hat - Part of uniform at Hogwarts.

Polyjiuce Potion - mudlike substance. (vol. 6, p. 185)

Portkey - Used to transport wizards from one spot to another at a prearranged time. (vol. 4, p. 70)

Protego - A shield charm; causes a charm or spell to reverse back to the one trying to use it. (vol 5, pp, 783, 803, 810)

Prophecies - Small glass orbs, housed in the Department of Mysteries - only the people to whom they refer, can lift them from the shelves without suffering madness. (vol. 5, p. 829)

Put-Outer - A device, owned by Albus Dumbledore that resembles a cigarette lighter, used to turn street-lamps on and off by removing and replacing the "balls of light" from the street lamps. (vol. 5, pp. 58, 60)

Quaffle - Red ball used for scoring in Quidditch.

Quibbler, The - A wizarding tabloid style magazine published by Luna Lovegood's father. (vol. 5 )

Quick-Quotes Quill - An automatic writing instrument that needs no hand to guide it. Used by Rita Skeeter, a reporter on The Daily Prophet. (vol 4, pp. 362, 451)

Quidditch - Wizard sport similar to soccer, but played in the air on broomsticks. Seven players on each team; three of them called chasers; uses three different balls - a Quaffle, red soccer sized ball; two bludger balls (black); the Golden Snitch - a tiny, winged, walnut-sized ball that the Seeker has to catch. Points are earned each time the ball goes through the hoop; the catching of the Golden Snitch signals the end of a game. (vol. 1, p. 167; vol. 3, p.143)

Quidditch Brooms - Nimbus 2000, Cleansweep Seven, Comet 260, Nimbus 2001, - light, speedy first-class Quidditch brooms. (vol. 1, p. 152) Firebolt - The most magnificent broom Harry had ever seen; the fastest broom in the world. (vol. 3, p. 57 & p. 254) A gift from Sirius. (vol. 3, p. 432)

Quidditch Plays - Wronski Defensive Feint; Dangerous Seeker Diversion; Hawkshead Attacking Formation; Porskoff Ploy. Complex plays used during Quidditch World Cup. (vol. 4, pp.106, 109)

Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery - Harry violates this decree and receives an Owl from the Improper Use of Magic Office that states that he is expelled from Hogwarts. (vol. 5, pp. 21, 27)

Remembrall - A glass ball the size of a large marble which is filled with white smoke. The smoke turns red to tell you that there is something you forgot to do. Useful tool for cheating on O.W.L.s (vol. 1, p. 145; vol. 5, p. 708)

Scarpin's Revelaspell - means of identifying a potion's ingredients. (vol. 6, p. 375)

Self -correcting Ink - Useful tool for cheating on O.W.L.s (vol. 5, p. 708)

Self-shuffling playing cards - Wizarding playing cards which shuffle themselves.

Shape-shifter - See boggart

Shield Hats, Cloaks & Gloves - for those who can't do a decent shield charm.

Sickle - Silver wizarding money.

Skele-gro - Potion used to re-grow bones.

Skiving Snackboxes - "A range of sweets to make you ill. Not seriously ill, just sick enough to get you out of a class when you feel like it." Invented by George and Fred Weasley; includes Fainting Fancies, Nosebleed Nougats, Puking Pastilles. (vol. 5, pp. 104, 105, 225)

Sloth-grip Roll - Quidditch move. (vol. 5. )

Sorcerer's Stone - Legendary stone more than 600 years old, which will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces The Elixir of Life, which makes the drinker immortal. The only known stone belongs to Nicholas Flamel, Albus Dumbledore's partner. (vol. 1, p. 220)

Snargaluff Stump - looks like a dead lump of wood; when disturbed it shoots out long bramblelike vines that whip around to protect the pulsating green grapefruit-size pods of tubers within it.

Sorting Hat - A patched frayed, dirty, pointed wizard's hat used to determine which house a Hogwart's student will be in. When not in use the hat sits on a four-legged stool.

Spattergroit - A grievous affliction of the skin that leaves one pock-marked and covered in pustules. One can't speak if it gets to the uvula. (vol. 5, p. 508; vol. 7, p. 99)

Spellotape - Wizarding repair tape. It was used by Ron Weasley to mend his broken wand.

S.P.E.W. - Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare. A movement begun by Hermione to improve the lives of House-elves. (vol. 4, p. 224)

Splinched - To leave half of yourself behind when apparating. (vol. 4, p. 66)

Statute of Secrecy - (vol. 5, p. 21)

Stealth Sensoring Spells - Placed by Professor Umbridge in her office to prevent uninvited visitors. (vol. 5, p, 741)

Swelling Solution - Potion that causes body parts to swell to enormous proportions.

Time-turner - Hourglass necklace that Hermione wears to take her back in time, in order to rescue Sirius Black (vol. 3, p. 395) Ministry's entire stock ruined in vol. 5.

Toothflossing Stringmints - Wizarding sweets that floss your teeth while you suck them.

Tornado Badge - Sky-blue and gold worn by Cho in support of a winning Quidditch team. (vol. 5, pp. 230-231)

Trainers - The British word for gym shoes. (vol. 5, p.180, 857)

Transfiguration - The art of turning one thing into another.

Transfiguration Today - Wizarding magazine about transfiguration.

Triwizard Tournament - Established 700 years ago as a friendly competition between the three largest European schools of wizardry, Hogwarts, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. Winners receive Triwizard Cup and 1,000 galleons. (vol. 4, p. 137)

Two-way Mirror - A device used by James and Sirius for communication, that Sirius gives to Harry. (vol. 5, p. 857-858)

Unicorn - Mythical white horse-like creature with golden mane and a golden horn sprouting from its head. Innocent, beautiful creature. Tail hair and horn can be used in magic. Dark wizards have been known to kill unicorns and drink their blood, which will sustain the life of the drinker. A unicorn foal is pure gold.

Unicorn Blood - Silver in color. Possesses magical and ominous qualities. (vol. 1, p. 250)

Vampire - Evil creature that roams the night feeding on the blood of living beings. Cannot go out in the daylight.

Vanishing Cabinet - a cabinet from which whatever is placed inside diappears.

Vault 713 - The place in Gringott's Bank that the Sorcerer's Stone was hidden until it was taken from there by Rubeus Hagrid.

Venomous Tentacula Seeds - A class "c" non-tradable substance that George and Fred need to make Skiving snackboxes. (vol. 5, p. 171)

Veritaserum - A very powerful truth serum which Snape threatens to use on Harry. (vol. 4, p. 517)

Wand - Implement used by wizards for magic. Available from Ollivanders in Diagon Alley.

Wartcap Powder - Turns skin crusty and brown. (vol. 5, p. 116)

The Weasley Clock - A special device that tells not only the time but the location and condition of the Weasley family menbers. (vol. 5, p. 471)

Werewolf - Half-man, half-wolf creature. A werewolf will kill given the chance. If not fatal, the werewolf's bite will turn the victim into a werewolf, too.

Which Broomstick? - Broomstick consumer magazine. Test-rides all makes of brooms and reviews them.

Whomping Willow - A large, very violent tree in the Forbidden Forest, on the grounds of Hogwarts, that hits anything that comes too close to it.

Wizengamot - Wizarding high court that interprets wizarding law. After Dumbledore is asked to leave the court, the body begins to hold "full criminal trials to deal with a simple matter of underage magic."(vol. 5, pp. 95, 139, 149)

Wizengamot Charter of Rights. - (vol. 5, pp. 142 -143)

Wizard Money - Galleon (gold), Sickle (silver) Knut and Lapin (bronze).

Wingardium Leviosa - Magic incantation to get an object to fly. (vol. 1, p. 171)

Wizard Crackers - Party favors that blast like cannons and produce clouds of smoke.

WWN - Wizarding Wireless Network; a radio station that plays music. (vol. 4, p .391)

Yule Ball - A special celebration and an opportunity for Hogwarts students to socialize during the Triwizard Tournament. Harry has to bring a date. (vol. 4, p. 386)

Accio - A summoning charm used by Mrs. Weasley to get Ton-Tongue Toffees away from George. (vol. 4, p.6 8)

Age Line Spell -- Creates a line that is impassible by people below a set age. (vol 4, p.256)

Aguamenti -- Produces a jet of water from a wand. (vol. 6, p. 574)

Alohomora - Door unlocking spell.

Anapneo - Cures someone of choking. (vol. 6, p. 144)

Animagus Transfiguration Spell -- Transforms a witch or wizard into an animal. It is fairly rare to be able to do this and an animagus must, by law, be registered with the Ministry of Magic. (vol 1, p. 9)

Anti-Cheating Charms -- Cast on a parchment to prevent the writer from cheating while writing answers. (vol. 1, p. 262)

Anti-Disapparation Jinx -- Used to prevent Disapparation in an area. Always in effect at Hogwart's unless it is lifted in a small area for the purposes of teaching. (vol. 6, p.382)

Antonin Dolohov's Curse -- Causes serious internal injury with no external symptoms. Cast with a slashing motion. The command was not given as Dolohov delivered it non-verbally after being hit with a Silencing Charm. (vol. 5, p.792)

Aparecium - Spell to make invisible ink visible.

Apparation Spell -- Causes the caster to appear at will at another location. Same as "disapparate," but from the opposite point of view. Can't be done within the walls of Hogwarts unless certain spells are undone for the purposes of teaching. Accompanied by a very loud "CRACK" noise. Vol 4, p. 52. Described in great detail (vol. 6, p. 382)

Atmospheric Charm -- Causes rain or other weather in a given area (vol. 7, p. 244)

Avada Kedavra - The "worst curse," also known as the Killing Curse. There is no countercurse or blocking curse for it. This is the curse that Harry miraculously survived when his parents were killed. He is the only known person to have survived it. (vol. 4, p. 215-16, p. 660)

Avis -- Creates a flock of birds, which pour out of the caster's wand. "Avis Oppungo" causes the birds to attack an opponent. (vol. 4, p. 309)

Banishing Charm - The opposite of a summoning charm. (vol. 4, p. 479)

Bat-Bogey Hex -- Enlarges the opponent's "bogies" (British slang for nasal mucus), gives them wings and sets them attacking the opponent. Vol. 5, p. 100.

Bedazzling Hex-- Similar to a Disillusionment Charm, it can be used to conceal a person or object. Used to make invisibility cloaks. (vol. 7, p. 410)

Voldemort's Horcruxes: 1) Tom Riddle's diary (vol. 6, p. 500) destroyed by Harry; 2) his grandfather's ring (vol. 6, p. 504) destroyed by Dumbledore; 3) his mother's locket; 4) the Hufflepuff cup; 5) possibly an artifact from Gryffindor or Ravinclaw; 6) Dumbledore believes is the snake, Nagini, even though it is inadvisable to use animals as Horcruxes. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was published in 2000 and contains 734 pages.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was published in 2003 and contains 870 pages. According to Time magazine (June 23, 2003 issue), Order of the Phoenix has had the largest 1st printing ever with 8.5 million copies and is the longest children's book ever.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was published in 2005 and contains 652 pages.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published in 2007 and contains 759 pages.

As of August, 2003, 200 million copies of the Harry Potter books had been sold world-wide.
