Greyback, Fenrir - A werewolf who is very cruel and especially enjoys biting human children and turning them into werewolves. Family friend of the Malfoys and fighting in collusion with the Death Eaters. Lupin, who was a former student and former professor at Hogwarts, was bitten by Greyback when he was a child. Greyback heads a group of werewolves who hate humans and who work on behalf of Voldermort. (vol. 6, pp. 71, 623)

Moody, Alastor (Mad-Eye) - An Auror, a Dark Wizard catcher, with many enemies; brought out of retirement by Dumbledore to teach Defense of the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. (vol. 4, p. 162 & 280) Scarred skin, half of a nose, one small, dark beady eye. The other eye moves up and down and from side to side, ceaselessly without blinking, and sometimes rolls over completely, so only the white can be seen; (makes him capable of seeing what is behind him). The moving eye is electric blue and as large as a coin. He has one wooden leg that is carved and ends in a clawed foot; he limps and uses a long staff. He has long, grizzled, dark grey hair. Potter, Harry - The most famous student at Hogwarts because he survived an attack by Lord Voldemort. He has jet black hair and green eyes, his glasses are held together by tape. He bears a lightning bolt-shaped scar on forehead, a remnant from the attack, which killed his parents. "The boy who lived." (vol. 5, p. 847)

Trelawny, Professor Sybil - Divination teacher at Hogwarts. Has a liking for predicting (wrongly) student deaths (especially Harry's) every year at Hogwarts. Very thin with large glasses that magnify her eyes so much that she looks like a giant insect. Wears many beads, chains and bangles. (vol. 4, p. 199) Possessed of second sight. When asked by Dolores Umbridge to predict something, Trelawney says, "The Inner Eye does not See upon command!" The object of Umbridge's scorn. (vol. 5, pp.314, 552)

Voldemort, Lord - Evil wizard, greatly feared by wizarding folk. His dark reputation is such that his name is hardly ever spoken out loud. He disappeared after the deaths of Harry's parents, Lily and James Potter.
Waffling, Adalbert - Author of Magical Theory.
Weasley, Arthur - Thin, balding, red hair; Ron Weasley's father. Head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office at the Ministry of Magic.
Weasley, Bill - Ron Weasley's brother. Works for Gringotts Bank in Africa; was brutally disfigured by Fenrir Greyback, during a fight. This injury occurred while Greyback was still in human form so it is unknown at this time whether Bill's physical injuries might include some werewolf tendencies or not. (vol. 6, p. 622)

Godric's Hollow - A muggle village where Lily and James Potter lived. It is also the place where Voldemort killed them.
The Great Hall - The main hall in Hogwarts where the Sorting Ceremony takes place and where meals are served. The ceiling has been bewitched to look like the sky.
Gryffindor House - One of the four houses at Hogwarts. It was founded by Godric Gryffindor. The house symbol is a lion. The resident ghost is Sir Nicolas de Mimsy-Popington, also known as Nearly Headless Nick. Professor McGonagal is head of Gryffindor and Professor Dumbledore was in Gryffindor in his youth. Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys are in Gryffindor House.
Gringotts - A banking institution for witches and wizards.
Grunnings - Uncle Vernon's drill-making company.
The Hearing Room - Located in the Ministry of Magic; where Harry goes for "his disciplinary hearing into offenses committed under the Decree for Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery and the International Statute of Secrecy." (vol. 5, pp. 137-138)
Hogs Head Inn - A "dodgy" pub or bar in Hogsmeade where a lot of "funny folk" hang out; Harry holds his first secret meeting of Dumbledore's Army here. (vol. 5, pp. 336-337)
Hogsmeade - The site of the 1612 goblin rebellion (listed in Sites of Historical Sorcery) and the only wizarding village in Britain. It boasts a wonderful array of shops including Honeydukes and The Three Broomsticks Pub. It is located near Hogwarts.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - The place where most of Harry's adventures take place.
Honeydukes - A sweet shop in Hogsmeade. (vol. 3, p. 151)
Houses at Hogwarts - Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw. Named after four headmasters.
King's Cross Station, Platform 9 3/4 - A train station in London from which the Hogwarts Express departs. (vol. 1, p. 90)
The Knight Bus - A triple decker bus that offers emergency transport for witches and wizards. At night, it has no seats, but provides a brass bedstead and a candle beside each bed for the riders. (vol. 3, p. 77)
Knockturn Alley - A seedy place where Harry mistakenly winds up when he takes Floo powder for the first time.
Leaky Cauldron - A grubby-looking pub, behind which lies Diagon Alley. (vol. 3, p. 41)
Little Hangleton- Town where the Riddle family home is located; where Tom, Sr. and his parents are found dead. (vol. 4, p. 2)
Little Whinging, Surrey - Town where Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley Dursley reside. (vol. 5, pp. 3, 10)

Ministry of Magic - Government agency that tries to keep witches and wizards secret from non-magical people. The entranceway is an old red telephone box (booth) that is heavily graffitied and has broken windows. (vol. 5, p. 125)
Moaning Myrtle's Bathroom - The entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.
Number 4 Privet Drive - The Dursley's residence in Little Whinging; the place that we first meet Harry.
Number 12 Grimmauld Place - Former home of Sirius's deceased mother; A location similar to Platform 9 3/4 in its way of materializing; headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix and the Anti-Voldemort Movement (vol. 5, pp. 59, 160) Inherited by Harry when Sirius died.
Ollivander's - A company in Diagon Alley that sells wands. Their motto is Makers of fine wands since 382 B.C.
Order of the Phoenix Headquarters - Located at Number 12 Grimmauld Place; Houses a secret society, founded by Dumbledore, consisting of those who fought against You-Know-Who. (vol. 5, p. 67)
Purge & Dowse, Ltd. - Large old-fashioned red brick department store in London, with a "shabby, miserable air" and a "Closed for refurbishing" sign in the window, where St. Mungo's Hospital is located. (vol. 5, p. 483)
The Room - A secret place in the Ministry of Magic. (vol. 5, pp. 771-772)
Room of Requirement - A person can only enter this room when they have a real need for it; always equipped for the seeker's needs; where secret meetings of Dumbledore's Army were held. Harry and Cho shared their first kiss after the final meeting of D.A. before Christmas break; also known as the Come and Go Room.
