Fun All Week Long
Be The Groove Presents: Boom, Bam, Tap and Swoosh Baxter Room 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 If your Toddler or Preschooler likes to make a lot of noise, this is the program for you! Drumming and dancing and joyful noises are all featured in this wonderful program tailored to young children and their families. Everyone will dance and selected children will try out a drum on stage. Be The Groove has a reputation for entertaining audiences in the Chicago dance and arts community and has performed at the Ravinia Festival, Northwestern, Old Town School of Folk Music and Dance Chicago.
3rd Annual Variety Show Baxter Room 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Come and be entertained by the young people in Morton Grove and our surrounding communities. Gifted kids of all ages will gather and perform their favorite talent.
Meet the Author: Harriette Gillem Robinet Baxter Room 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 Come to the Library and meet celebrated author Harriette Gillem Robinet. Ms. Robinet is the author of many highly honored and Award winning works of historical fiction for children. Find out what inspires her and how she discovers the history behind her stories. Ms. Robinet's books will be for sale for the author to sign.
Meet the Illustrator and Author - Tom Lichtenheld Activity Room 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 Meet Tom Lichtenheld who is the artist for our Summer Reading Program. Tom will talk about his books and what it is like to be a children's book author, and he will demonstrate how he illustrates a story. Future writers and readers will really enjoy meeting this wonderful artist and author.
Make a Book Work Shop - ages 7-12 Activity Room 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 If you have ever wanted to try and write and illustrate your own book, this is the place to be. Tom Lichtenheld an Illinois children's book author and illustrator, will help you create your very own illustrated children's book.
Origami Workshop with Jean Mishima - ages 6-10 Activity Room 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2008 May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Come celebrate and learn about the ancient Asian art form of Origami by learning how to fold paper into amazing forms such as animals, dolls and even nesting boxes. Space is limited and registration is required so sign up now for this multi-cultural experience.

Wheel of Wisdom Show Activity Room 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 Get in the Game with this fun and interactive show. Come and see the giant Hollywood style Game Show set and participate as a contestant, wheel spinner or be part of the audience lifeline. There will be ten unique categories of questions placed on the giant wheel that will challenge children from Kindergarten through 6th grade.
Father Daughter English Country Dance Baxter Room 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 Fathers and their daughters will learn to dance just like Jane Austen did in the Regency Period style of the 1820s. These english country dances are surprisingly easy to learn and make a beautiful presentation. The beautiful period music is a delight to dance to and there will be light refreshments and tea. Period costumes are welcome but not necessary and you should definitely wear your dancing shoes. Registration is required and space is limited. For girls in grades 5-12 and their fathers.
Princess Party - ages 3-7 Activity Room 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008 Join us for a royal time with our special guest Marissa Weiler, Miss Teen Morton Grove 2007 and Dream Girls USA Illinois Supreme Royalty 2008. Listen to delightful stories about Princesses and have some light refreshments. Craft a stately crown and learn about the many things a Morton Grove Princess will need to know like how to have the very best manners, posture and how to always work hard and help others. Please come dressed up in your very favorite Princess outfit. Registration is required, 25 limit ages 3-7 years old.
