Lara and the Gray Mare. While her father is away fighting the Normans and other Irish clans, nine-year-old Lara works hard to help harvest food and also cares for the pregnant gray mare that she loves.

Emerson, Charlotte.
Beth's Snow Dancer. Alec Ramsay tries to hold onto his love of racing and his steeplechaser Black Storm when both are threatened under different circumstances.

Farley, Steven.
The Black Stallion's Steeplechaser. As the family prepares for Christmas, Beth befriends a beautiful but sickly pony that strays into the March's yard and tries to keep it from being taken to Boston to be sold as a "useless beast."

Farley, Terri.

The Island Stallion. A boy and his archeologist friend spend two weeks on a desolate Carribbean island where they discover a hidden valley, underground tunnels built by Spanish Conquistadors, and a wild flame-colored horse.

The Island Stallion's Fury. Pitch and Steve's secret island valley is discovered and invaded by a hard and vicious man, who is a threat to the island stallion and his band.

The Island Stallion Races. Two visitors from another world enter the valley of Azul Island and provide Steve with a chance to see how Flame can do in competition with the world's fastest horses.

The Black Stallion's Filly. The further adventures of Alec and his good friends at Hopeful Farm, introducing a new filly, Black Minx, sired by the Black Stallion.

The Black Stallion Revolts. The Black Stallion suddenly breaks out of his paddock and attacks Satan in an adjoining paddock. Warned by Henry, the trainer, that the Black is a murderer, Alec realizes that the stallion is restless from months of routine, so he plans to take him on a plane to the West where they will have acres and acres to roam. Little did Alec know that they would never reach their destination, and that they would go separate ways before finding each other again.

The Black Stallion's Courage. On a night which is too quiet, Alec senses something ominous in the air. Little does he imagine that the events of that night would lead to the most fantastic comeback in racing history -- the return of the Black Stallion.

The Blue Roan Child. Eleven-year-old orphan Syeira flees the stables of King Hulvere of Haysele with Arwin, a wild Arva horse who communicates through smells and breath, in a convoluted and mysterious quest to recover her two colts from Lord Ran of Stormsythe.

Griffith, Helen V.
Cougar. Starting a new life on a farm in the country, Nickel has to adjust to the attentions of a local bully and the appearances of a ghost horse that was supposed to have died in a fire.

Haas, Jessie.
A Horse Like Barney. Sequel to keeping Barney. Finally given permission to have a horse of her own, Sarah looks at a series of Morgans and finds herself being bored, and falling in love with too many horses.

Beware and Stogie. When Stogie, Gramp's untamed horse, escapes during a storm, Lily and her horse Beware are the ones who bring Stogie home again.

Unbroken. Following her mother's death in the early 1900s, thirteen-year-old Harry lives on Aunt Sarah's farm where an accident with her spirited colt leaves her a changed young woman.

Uncle Daney's Way. When his great-uncle Daney comes to live with Cole's family after being crippled in a logging accident, the two work together all summer to find a way to make enough money to buy feed so they can keep Daney's old horse.

Will You,Won't You? Spending the summer with her strong-willed politician grandmother, fourteen-year-old Mad achieves breakthroughs in both her horseback riding and her Scottish dancing and begins to develop the self-confidence she has always lacked.

Hart, Alison.
Shadow Horse. Thirteen-year-old Jas tries to prove that the owner of the farm where she works has killed her favorite horse, Whirlwind.

Henry, Marguerite.
Justin Morgan Had A Horse. Story of the brave little Vermont work horse from which came the famous American breed of Morgan horses.

King of the Wind. This is the story, written as fiction but following closely the actual history of Godolphin Barb or Godolphin Arabian, ancestor of Man O' War and one of the founders of the entire Thoroughbred Strain. (Newbery Award Winner)

Born to Trot. As he learns about the famous Hambletonian, sire of the American trotter, young Gib White dreams of some day having his own filly become a champion trotter.

Misty of Chincoteague. A tale of two children and a freedom-loving wild pony, which takes place on the islands of Assateague and Chincoteague, Virginia. Here, legend says, a band of Moorish ponies escaped from a wrecked Spanish galleon long ago, and here their descendants still live.

Sea Star, Orphan of Chincoteague. In this sequel to "Misty of Chincoteague," Paul and Maureen Beele save a little orphan colt.

Misty's Twilight. Captivated by the story of "Misty of Chincoteague," a woman with a horse farm in Florida raises one of Misty's descendants to become a chamption show horse.

Kamida, Vicki.
Night Mare. Having discovered a hidden ranch tucked away in the arroyo near her home, thirteen-year-old Janet goes there to train a magnificent white mare to be a show horse, unaware of its true nature or that of its owners.

Keehn, Sally.
The First Horse I See. Left in the care of her beloved Granddad following the death of her mother, Willojean tries to prove to her alcoholic father that she is able to train a special horse which had been abused.

Keith, Harold.
Chico and Dan. The story takes place on a cattle ranch in Nevada around 1915. At age 11, Dan Deweese has left home and come to work for his great-uncle Buck Boyce. Dan's first meeting with the cantankerous old rancher is not exactly heartwarming. However, Buck grudgingly agrees to let the boy stay in the bunkhouse with the rest of the hired hands. The day after he arrives at the ranch "a force came into his life that was to change its entire direction." A wild colt, just a few hours old, wanders in among the saddle horses. Buck orders it destroyed, but Dan convinces the old man to let him keep the orphan. The boy and his horse quickly become inseparable friends. Chico proves to be a natural cow horse but Uncle Buck still won't change his negative opinion of wild horses. When his six new steeldust mares are stolen by a wild mustang, Dan and his pony become involved in the long process of reclaiming them.

Kinsey-Warnock, Natalie.
If Wishes Were Horses. During the summer of 1932 when Lily is twelve years old, she is granted her two greatest wishes, to be far from the sister who torments her and to have a horse of her own, but she does not expect either the tragic events that bring this about or their consequences.

Leitch, Patricia.
Show Jumper Wanted. When Thalia has a serious riding accident, her estranged father takes away her beloved horse Tarquin, leaving it up to Sally, her best friend, to get him back. (Horseshoes ; #5) (Paperback)

Lester, Alison.
The Snow Pony Prolonged drought has strained Dusty's ranching family to the breaking point, but she finds consolation with her wild and beautiful horse.

Levin, Betty.

Wild Horse Summer. Alison spends her thirteenth summer on a ranch in Wyoming where she learns to ride a horse and where Kelly, who is blind, helps her overcome an old fear.

Skurzynski, Gloria.
