Library Director

The Morton Grove Public Library is looking to fill the open position of Library Director. Our library serves the needs of the village's diverse population of 23,000 in north suburban Chicago with a staff of 57 (32 FTE), an annual operating budget of $3 million with a collection of 155,000, and an annual circulation of 380,000. Our library is known for its exceptional staff and high quality service.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

This position requires a strong combination of leadership and administrative skills. The Director is responsible for establishing a long-range vision that aligns the library's mission, goals and objectives with community needs and works with the Board to achieve them. Provides leadership to employ, develop and maintain a high-performance professional and support staff to optimize services and patron satisfaction. With input from the department heads, the director will prepare, control, plan and implement the annual budget and manage that budget in an appropriate and fiscally sound manner. Will listen and communicate effectively with the staff, the Board, Village government, local civic and business organizations and the citizens of Morton Grove. This position requires judgment as well as comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with, Library policy and local, state and federal laws.

Qualifications:

MLS/MALS from an ALA-approved library school with demonstrated administrative skills and leadership ability. Minimum of five years public library professional experience with increasing responsibilities in all aspects of library management, including supervision of staff and budgeting responsibilities.

Salary:

$90,000+, depending on qualifications, plus an excellent benefits package. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position.

Part-time Copy Cataloger

Primary responsibility is the cataloging of children's materials using copy cataloging found on OCLC, editing records according to local practice, and assigning call numbers. Afternoon/evening and weekend hours available.

Copy Cataloger Job Description

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience required. At least one year of experience performing copy cataloging and classification of books required. Strongly prefer experience with SIRSI Unicorn or Symphony. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
