Collection Development and Materials Selection Policy
Literacy
Materials for adults who are speakers of a foreign language or who are learning to read are shelved separate from the nonfiction collection. Graded language exercise books, citizenship books, stories, how-to books, audio cassettes and texts, and more comprise this area.
Influencing Factors
Morton Grove Public Library is a member of the Oakton District Public Library Literacy Coalition. The selection committee of the Coalition orders all of the materials through grants from the State of Illinois Literacy Project.
Selection Plan
Most materials are sent to the library from the Coalition and are broadly classified as "Literacy" materials by the library.
Retention & Weeding
All materials are kept until they are in poor condition and then are returned to the Oakton District Literacy Coordinator.
Development Plan
The library maintains and follows the Oakton District Public Library Literacy Coalition guidelines for the collection. If funding should cease through the Coalition, the library would have to reassess the value of this collection and develop a new policy for this collection. However, at present, this is an area which will remain stable in size.
