Creative Non-fiction and Memoirs w/ Footnotes

She also wanted fiction, but I sent her a bunch of those that I've read and I also found websites listing tons of fiction with footnotes, but I'm coming up a little short for memoirs and creative non-fiction.
Any suggestions? I can compile this list if there is interest.

You can't get much more creative than "Mots d'heure gousses rames" by Luis d'Antin van Rooten. It is an hilarious book of erstwhile poetry, much decorated with footnotes. Highly recommended for those who love language or nonsense or especially, both. Requires only a little French ...

Probably 20+ years ago Piers Anthony published either a SF or fantasy that
had often long and usually quite funny footnotes about when the book was
first written and another publisher had started to publish it. I can still
remember one footnote that read something like "And he did this to Piers
Anthony, who is well known as one of the most irascible and
hard-to-get-along-with authors in the business."
Of course, I can't remember the title and I'm sure it's out of print now but
I thought this might wiggle a memory loose. It was a fun read.

The late "Buck" Coulson was a friend of mine and I have my own opinion about
the whole kerfuffle, but this is not the time or the place to air it. I
do agree that
the Tor edition is a very good example of unusual use of footnotes...

the Tor edition is a very good example of unusual use of footnotes...
Joaquin Peralta uses footnotes "by Joseph O. Kuhl," the narrator (or
perpetrator)
to explain, clarify, define assertions (and hilarify readers)
in his _An Almost Private Eye_, a work of fiction reviewed in SLJ.

Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell is fiction, but his footnotes are largely
medical and very interesting - sometimes funny.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski definitely makes interesting use
of footnotes. It isn't non-fiction but is worth a look.

Russell Brand. He uses footnotes to explain British terms and references
to non-Brits. The book is definitely not for the easily offended (sex,
drugs, etc.), but it's wickedly funny.

>>I have a student looking for interesting uses of footnotes in creative
non-fiction and memoirs. Footnotes that expand upon something in history
or an idea mentioned in the creative non-fiction or memoirs, or
footnotes that even expand upon a story or tell a story all by
themselves.

Subject: creative footnotes
I just finished reading Mary Roach's Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. I thought the footnotes were really funny and interesting. I'm looking forward to her other books.

Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex by Mary Roach has really
entertaining footnotes. I've not read her previous books, but they
might also.
