Hi, I have a patron here that remembers reading a series of chapter books (at least 3) as a child (1970's-1980's) about a boy who gets a chemistry set from an old lady. He uses the chemistry set and "things" happen. The patron is not sure if they are magical things or just unusual unusual things

Seems to me we discussed this series a while ago, but I couldn't come up with it in the archives. Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds like The Lemonade Trick by Corbett, the first in series of books that all have "trick" in the title. These were definitely available at time.

Martha,
I think Pam Kource has found it for you. The Scott Corbett books featuring the main character Kerby Maxwell and having the word "trick" in the title all involved Kerby's adventures or misadventures with his chemistry set. I read this as a kid along with the Danny Dunn series, the Henry Reed books, and of course The Three Investigators. The books are from the 1960s and early 1970s but they have been in print off and on since then and appear to be available now.
