Most states have a "center for the book."' headquarters would be LC, but I
think 40+ states have regional centers. Try Center for the Book on google.

If you have a subscription to CONTEMPORARY AUTHORS in electronic form,
you can use "advanced search" to search by place of birth and/or place
of death (but not, apparently, by current address). A place of birth
search for pa retrieves 4,449 entries, though.

The print directory WHO'S WHO IN WRITERS, EDITORS AND POETS had a
geographical address index broken down to the state level, but that
title ceased with the 1995/96 edition.

Mary, this is Sanya. There used to be a listing of books "set" in each state
in "Facts about the States" if we still have copies. In the Gale
Contemporary authors you may be able to search by state, you can search
ethnisity. Hope these two hints help.
