Washington Romance Writers Present "Historical Day"
Baltimore, MD—If you write historical romance, enjoy reading it, fancy
yourself a bit of a history buff or are simply the curious type, then you won't
want to miss Washington Romance Writers' (WRW) Historical Day on Saturday, May
15, between 10 am and 4 pm at the Church of the Covenant, 2666 N. Military
Rd., Arlington, VA.
In the morning session, materials culture historian Newbold Richardson's
topic is "Shaped By Cloth: The Social Context of Dress," (social conventions
surrounding the dress of women, from the Middle Ages to the Jazz Age). The
two-part afternoon session, "Fashion, Gossip, Etiquette & Tea during the Victorian
Era," features The Tea Lady (Judy Larkin) and Wini Hamilton and their lively
historic period presentation on the Romantic, Antebellum and Civil War Periods
(1837-1865), then Reconstruction and the Gay Nineties (1865-1901).
A highlight of the day will be Afternoon Tea, during which attendees will
be invited to feast upon scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sandwiches
and desserts similar to those that were customarily offered at an afternoon
tea during the Victorian Era. Bring your own tea cup, saucer and dessert plate
to feast upon the delectable fare being served. Various WRW authors will be on
hand to partake in the festivities. Raffle Drawings & Closing Remarks will
round out the day.
Fees: $10-WRW members; $15-RWA members; and $25-non-members. The
registration cut off date is Friday, May 7. To pre-register, complete the form
(available on the WRW web site, www.wrwdc.com) and mail it along with the
appropriate fee to Lori Pepio, WRW Historical Day Registration, P.O. Box 651072, Potomac
Falls, VA 20165. Directions and updated information also on the WRW website,
or contact Lori Pepio at [removed]@loripepio.com.
