I couldn't stand watching the 9/11 Commission hearings without
reading Clarke's book, Against All Enemies, so I bought it and wish
to report that it is a damn good read, not only for the inimitable
first chapter which is a minute-by-minute account of what went on in
the White House after the first of the World Trade Center Towers was
hit, but also for all the anecdotes along the length of Clarke's
career. Do not just write it off as some sort of partisan,
policy-wonk book at the top of the NF bestseller list as a fluke of
timing. It's as fascinating as any fictional thriller I've read, and
I have read a lot of them (although not as many as Michael Gannon,
admittedly).

It's not very restful for recuperating from surgery, but certainly
took my mind off the incision.
