If it is the 1899 edition, ABEBooks has a copy in excellent condition listed
for $8,000.00. There were no 1899 editions listed in a quick look at
ALibris.

Subject: Price Needed for the Awakening & Reference Listserv ?
I have a patron who is looking for the sale price of _The Awakening_, by
Kate Chopin, 1899 Ed, published by Stone & Company, Chicago, ILL.
We do not have _American Book Prices Current_. I have called two
libraries that I thought had this, but no luck. I would be very
appreciative if someone would send the the above information.
Also, is there a reference listserv?
TIA,
Cathryn

We also get BOOKMAN'S PRICE INDEX, which records asking prices from
printed catalogs of various rare book dealers. (No guarantee the
books sold at their asking price, of course.) This has multiyear
cumulations so was fairly quick to check. In years 1993 to date
(vols. 47-75) I found three copies of the 1899 1st edition of THE
AWAKENING listed.
v51 (1996), page 134: copy with small corner stamp, light creases
to rear cover, soiled, spine dull, "decent condition" $750
v60 (1998), page 155: ex-library copy, with large book plate,
small stamps, library stamps, pencil marks, spine cloth very
lightly soiled, faint trace of label removal, etc.; "apart from
these flaws, a tight, bright copy, very good, without dust
jacket" $1750
v73 (2003), page 194: partially uncut, spine a bit faded,
scattered edge stains, "all in all, very good tight and bright
copy" from collection of and with book plate of Estelle Doheny
$4500
Hope this helps.

(who is boggled at the idea of an *ex-library* copy of anything
short of a Gutenberg Bible going for $1750, but that's just me)

Forgot to answer your second question. If you mean a listserv for
sharing/seeking help with reference questions (a more general
version of the fiction-question-oriented Fiction-L), as opposed to
a listserv for "how I run my reference department good" advice,
I recommend Stumpers-L:
