I have patron who is looking for "good reads" similar to the Michael Gear Anasazi series. She did not like the Jean Auel "Earth Children" series. She wants ancient history, not present-day or near-contemporary settings. Hard back format is preferred. Thank you.

Your patron might like She Who Remembers, by Linda Lay Shuler, and Mother
Earth, Father Sky, by Sue Harrison. They are both the first books in series set
in ancient North America, and were published in hardcover.

I question recommending Janelle Taylor to a fan of Michael Gear who wants
other books with an ancient setting. Janelle Taylor is a romance author and
I think would mainly appeal to patrons who regularly read in the romance
genre. Also, she write books set in the old west and often focuses on the
conflicts between the Indians and the white settlers. While the setting is
definitely historical, I would not call it ancient.

James Alexander Thom's _Children of First Man_ is about the Welsh prince Madoc who came to America in the 12th century & his crew intermingled with the Native Americans. His other books are more historical, rather than ancient, but are very good American Indian reads.
If non-Indian topics are okay, the author who comes to mind is Morgan Llywelyn. She writes a lot of books based on Irish history & myth.
