I wonder if this sounds familiar to anyone: adult fiction about a ghost
hitchhiker (apparently a popular urban legend), has a dark blue cover with
a picture of a woman in a bright white dress walking down a road that
winds between trees. The patron doesn't remember anything else about the
plot. The author's name probably begins with a "C" or maybe "D" because
that was the aisle that the patron was in when she saw the book. After
scrutinizing pretty much every book in that aisle with the patron, I also
tried our catalog, NoveList, and Amazon, to no avail. TIA!

This sounds like a variant of "The Girl in the Lavender Dress." You can
find one version of it in the old Time-Life volume, "Life Treasury of
American Folklore."
