The Coordinator of the Downers Grove Public Library's Literature and
Audio Services Department is retiring. She has been a national leader in
the development of reader's advisory service in public libraries and we
are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic replacement to carry on our
strong tradition of readers' advisory service and lead us forward into
the virtual age. As head of the department, the Coordinator supervises 2
professional and 5 paraprofessional staff, develops the department's
goals and objectives, manages its budget, and oversees collection
development of the fiction, 800's, audio recordings, and popular video
collections. This position is a member of the library management team
and works with the administration and other department heads to develop
library policies and determine the future direction of the library. This
position requires an ALA-MLS; four years experience in public library
readers' advisory work, with a vision for the future; a broad knowledge
of contemporary, classic and genre fiction; literature reference skills;
supervisory skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer
service to library patrons. Minimum starting salary is $44,000. To
