You may also find it useful to get a copy of John Mort's book Christian
fiction: a guide to the genre. Libraries Unlimited, 2002. It gives s good
overview of the genre and discusses a variety of authors.

This is a good list, and there are so many more! The really exciting thing
about Christian & other inspirational fiction is the wide variety of genres
being published. Besides traditional historicals and romances, there are
thrillers, mysteries, experimental, 'chick lit,' and more men's fiction.
The quality of Christian fiction titles has improved quite a bit overall,
and many of the titles have crossover appeal for readers of general fiction.
Some really excellent books published last year were "If I Gained the World"
by Linda Nichols, "I'll Watch the Moon" by Ann Tatlock, "Flabbergasted" by
Ray Blackston, "Fire by Night" by Lynn N. Austin, and "Jerusalem's Rain" by
D. S. Lliteras.

The Christy Awards website (www.christyawards.com) might be another useful source of ideas. From their "About the Awards" page (www.christyawards.com/about.htm):
"In the spring of 1999, nearly a dozen Christian publishers confirmed the need for establishing a Christian fiction award to recognize novelists and novels of excellence in half a dozen genres of Christian fiction...."
The same page also includes their working definition of "what makes a novel Christian."

Most of your author suggestions seem good. However, I am curious as to why
you included David Baldacci on your list. I have read "Last Man Standing"
and I can not think of a single element in the story that would make it
Christian fiction.

I receive a lot of requests for "Christian Fiction". Aside from novels by
Jeanette Oke and Beverly Lewis I always draw a blank. Any suggestions of
other authors from this wise group?
Thanks in advance--Diane Premo, Rochester Public Library
