This sounded familiar and I tried Serafina and Seraphina with no luck. Then
I realized I was thinking of Thomasina and the movie The three lives of
Thomasina. I have no idea if this was from a book. I guess I'm replying
just to get past the Thomasina thing and to make sure you're not thinking of
this.

The book the movie was based on was Thomasina by Paul Gallico (in case
that's the book Cathryn is really thinking of).

written by Paul Gallico.
