Hello,

I would like to create a readers' advisory newsletter that would be published
each month in my library. I need some examples to show to my director to get
her approval to put one together as a sample. Do any other libraries publish
a readers' advisory newsletter? Do you have a link on your webpage that I
could print out?

I would also like any other suggestions you have for content, etc...

Hi, here in PA at the Dauphin County Library System we publish about once a
month a single sheet readers advisory handout called "Leads to Good Reads".
One side is fiction and the other non-fiction. Staff members are the authors
of the blurbs and the only criteria is that they not be books by already
popular authors. I will try to send you a copy in the next couple of days.

We started publishing a RA newsletter called The Collection Connection.
We publish it quarterly in print form and also put it on our web page.
It is geared mainly toward fiction, but I try to get some of the
Reference people to write an article each time about some nonfiction

We have started up a book review publication called "Shelf Life"
about a year ago. Our patrons seem to really like it. We have tried
to focus on non-bestselling fiction. Here is the link:

For an example of a RA Newsletter, you might point her to our website
and copies of the "Book Lover's Review" we distribute in both paper and
electronic format.

I will say that a monthly newsletter is very ambitious. We began the
first year with an edition every other month and truly could not keep
up. We are now creating them quarterly and my entire staff is involved
with creating the Read-a-Likes, and other columns which helps. The "Good
Books You May Have Missed" are culled from our staff annotation database
which includes over 900 reviews now. All staff contribute to that.

I do a Reader's Advisory newsletter every other month at our library. We put
out a print version (one two-sided page trifolded) and a copy on our website.
To view the website version go to www.browncountylibrary.org - click
on "Adults" in the left hand column then "Book news & Reviews" at the top. We
call our newsletter BOOKMARKS. I've been doing it since 1999 so I did not copy
the title from the current magazine of the same name.
