My library director is trying to remember the title of a book she read a few years ago. The book was probably published in the 90's. A petty thief probably involved in some sort of postal fraud is in a federal prison in New York city. He is offered a deal which involves being taken to an island which is some sort of military base probably in the Carolinas and is blindfolded in a car while being taken there. A woman lawyer is the romantic entanglement. Any help greatly appreciated and would do wonders for my status. Sheelagh Kaplan Mahopac Library NY

Sounds like Donald E. Westlake's "Put a Lid on It". By coincidence I just
started it last night and the early parts of the book fit the description.
