We have a patron looking for the title of a book she thinks she read in the
past 7-10 years. The plot revolved around 5 women in a book club. Here are
descriptions of 3 of those characters the patron remembers:
--a good, wholesome woman dies of cancer. Her caretaker was a gay male
neighbor
--a young girl, a trophy wife, suffers mental problems, perhaps depression
--a woman writer, a bit wild; book is written from her point of views. She
has an affair with a married man who is the subject of her next book.

They end up at a summer home where they are to scatter the ashes of the
dead woman on the beach.

That's all the patron remembers. If anyone can supply the title, she'd be

Some of the elements sound like Patricia Gaffney's The Saving Graces, only
that book deals with four women, not five. Worth a mention, in any case.

This sounds a bit like The Mayor of Heaven by Lynn Kanter although this was written in, I believe, 1998 and also involves a lesbian relationship.

I was about to suggest Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons as the title the
patron wants, despite her having remembered reading it longer ago than it
was written. The plot elements are right, and often we mis-remember when we
actually read something. I helped a woman who insisted a book she wanted
she had read "when I was a girl" but it was much newer than that. I
recognized the book and just quietly gave it to her, not mentioning the 2001
copyright, I figured that since it was a children's book she mentally
connected it with childhood, though she probably read it on a recommendation
from a friend or when she bought it for a child. We do odd things with our
memories of reading, I mostly attach books to mood or location rather than
time read. (e.g. I remember what I read when I was ill, and I remember what
I read sitting in the lunch room at my old job)
