Reader is looking for a book she may have read five or
more years ago about biblical writings discovered in a
cave by a group of archeologists (maybe not ALL of
them were archeologists) who decide to keep the
discovery a secret due to its possible negative impact
on Christianity and society.
According to the reader it's not Earthly Remains by
Peter Hernon or Linz Testament by Lewis Perdue. These
titles I found in NoveList.
Bring back any biblio-memories?

Could be Barbara Woods's 'The Prophetess'
Some others along the same general lines are
Jonathan Rabb's 'The Book of Q' and Simon Mawer's
'The Gospel of Judas.'

Here is the description from Amazon.com
Book Description
Jonathan Weber, Harvard professor and biblical
scholar, is looking forward to a sabbatical year on an archaeological
dig in Israel. But a spectacular discovery—a skeleton almost 2,000
years old!—will either shed light on the life of Jesus Christ or be
the death rattle of the Christian faith.
Meanwhile, Weber’s interest in Shannon Jennings, daughter of
the dig’s director, proves to be an exciting complication.
Delving into the worlds of science, archeology, politics, and
religion, this fast-paced thriller explores the tension between doubt
and faith and one man’s determination to find the truth— no matter
what the cost.

There is a series of books written by an American author - Theone, Bodie called "the Zion Chronicles" Titles like "Key to Zion & "Light to Zion" I think there are six altogether. They are about people who went back to Israel after the 2nd World War and does include a find of relics in a cave. Sorry I can't be more definite - am not at home!
