Information about television commercials that manipulate emotion, as
well as other non-fiction-related matters, are becoming more common
on this maillist than the fiction-related ones it was meant to serve.
I hope I speak for those who really treasure this resource, and don't
wish to see it overrun with visiting and trading "me to - me to"
emails, and issues that have nothing to do with readers' advisory
service or fiction.
Clearly people who are of like mind can take their messages off list
-we all do that on occasion and it can be very satisfying. The
maillist does not need to see the conversations of individuals who
want to chat.

Fiction_L now has more than 2000 subscribers and is still growing. It is
very difficult to keep the list completely on target. However, Fiction_L
has managed to stay focused so far and will be celebrating its 10th
anniversary next year at the end of 2005. Debbie's message on chatter is a
call for the subscribers to stay focused on readers advisory topics, and I
agree with that.
However, I would like to mention that Fiction_L is a discussion list on
readers advisory for adult and children's fiction and non-fiction alike --
covering all aspects of readers adisory.
The last thing I would like to mention is that there are a number of topics
in the library world that are of great interest to many, but if these topics
do not have a readers advisory angle [fiction or non-fiction] , they have to
be discussed on other library-related lists - PubLib being just one of them.

I was thinking of sending a message to the list to reiterate our posting
guidelines for some time now. I was tempted to send a message when list
discussion on kids and reading started to deviate from a discussion on
reading to a discussion on teachers and schools and bad administrators.
However, several thoughtful postings made this discussion rebound and go
back into the right direction.

This is much appreciated, Natalya. I'll
take the opportunity to re-post one of my
favorite reminders: if you're coming to the list
with a stumper, please include something specific
in the Subject Line. Postings with labels like
"Help!" "Stumper" "Identify this Book" don't help
members in selecting threads they think they can
contribute to, and can also be confusing in the
archives.
Thanks,
David Wright
