The Saint (possibly wrong title)

Can anyone help me identify the correct title and the author of this book?'
Patron says that a saint's bones were found (either Peter or Paul, not sure
which). DNA was extracted and injected into a man, who became that saint.
The effect on the church was horrific -- one specific scene is that this
"new saint" strode into the Basilica, yelled for everyone to get out and
started tearing the multi-language confessional booths out, saying that
Jesus never intended for man to confess to man, that man should confess
only to God.
I can't find this book. I guess the title is too short to make searching
effective.
Thanks.

never comes to any meetings?"

I think this could be "Saint" by Mark Bailey. A scientist injects the
DNA of a relic of Saint Peter's into a living subject, who 'remembers'
who he is on a molecular level. The living saint escapes the research
facility, and the scientist has got to find him before some assassins
do. Although I did read this book, I don't remember the Basilica scene
- it's been a while...
Hope that helps...
