Dear Collective Brain,

In one of the professional journals, I saw a new book
about Patterson NJ that was fiction. I could swear
that the title was In Patterson, but I can't find it
anywhere. The only other thing I remember is that the
author was female. Anyone remember this?

I have this title on a list of books I intend to order. I thought I might
be able to figure out where I read about it from where it was on my list.
No luck. And none of the usual vendors (B&T or Ingram) seem to have it. I
tried Booksense and took a fast look at Bookpage but no luck. Strange
that both you and I have this title but can't find it. I'm certain someone
else will know where we found it.

I sort of remember seeing it too. I grew up not far from there
and was curious about it. I came across a short story collection
called "An Island like you" by Judith Ortiz Cofer, but I'm pretty
sure that wasn't the one I remember seeing.

Not to bore everyone but when I searched for the title by ISBN in Ingram's
IPage, the title came up as "In Paterson"; only one T. Perhaps that was
the problem all along.

It probably is because you spelled Patterson with two Ts. Paterson, NJ has
only one as it did in the description of the Updike novel. Spelling really
does count!
