Help me find this title about Patterson NJ
|
FROM: Violet <[removed]@yahoo.com>
REC'D: 6/2/03, 1:26 PM
In one of the professional journals, I saw a new book
about Patterson NJ that was fiction. I could swear
that the title was In Patterson, but I can't find it
anywhere. The only other thing I remember is that the
author was female. Anyone remember this?
Thanks,
Vi

Author: Updike, John.
Title: In the beauty of the lilies [sound recording] /
John Updike.
Paterson, New Jersey, 1910. Mary Pickford is
making the movie The Call to Arms when she faints from the
heat. At that same moment a few blocks away, Reverend
Clarence Wilmot loses his faith in God. As generations
follow, Wilmot's son Theodore substitutes movies for the
faith that failed, Theodore's daughter Esther becomes a
film
star, and her son Clark goes back to religion as a cult
member. Strong language and some descriptions of sex.
Bestseller.

I have this title on a list of books I intend to order. I thought I might
be able to figure out where I read about it from where it was on my list.
No luck. And none of the usual vendors (B&T or Ingram) seem to have it. I
tried Booksense and took a fast look at Bookpage but no luck. Strange
that both you and I have this title but can't find it. I'm certain someone
else will know where we found it.
