Then, of course, there are Jack London's CALL OF THE WILD, etc.
I went to Google and input the search: dog books (fiction). Among other
things, it referred me to several lists on Amazon. (They call them "Listmania")
At least 2 were devoted to dogs. Included were Morris's MY DOG SKIP, books by
jack London, Albert Payston Terhune, Eric Knight, Fred Gipson, Phyllis
Reynolds Nayor (Shiloh), Donald McCraig (Nop's Trials), etc.
Happy hunting!

woofs to the list!

THOR by Wayne Smith. Told from German Shepherd's point of
view. He suspects a relative of the family is "not quite right" and
goes to any lengths to protect his pack.
NOP'S TRIALS by Donald McCaig. A border collie is kidnapped.
The story tells of his adventures & his owner's attempts to get him
back.
THE PLAGUE DOGS by Richard Adams. Two "plague dogs"
escape from an experimental lab (not the dog breed -- I've always
wondered if "lab tested" was tested by black labs....) and roam the
English countryside.
All the above have wonderful "doggie insights." Two paws up for all
of them.

course, doesn't exist any more) but I don't want to type it all out, and the

Oh Goody goody. Time for the Dog People to have their Day!
I second McCaig's Nop's Trials. Nop's Hope was merely good, not GREAT like
Nop's Trials.
Let us not forget the children's classics:
Lassie Come-Home by Knight
Lad: a Dog by Terhune (or anything else by him)
all of the books by Jim Kjelgaard (How DO you pronounce that anyway?)
especially Big Red
Old Yeller and/or Savage Sam by Gipson
The Incredible Journey by Burnford
Where the Red Fern Grows by Rawls
Someone already mentioned Shiloh by Naylor
There's also:
Because of Winn Dixie by Dicamillo
Not fiction, but Travels with Charley
Someone already mentioned The Plague Dogs but don't forget Cujo by King.

For my next display, I want to do fiction that features dogs. I know there
is a great list on Fiction_L that has dogs in mysteries. Any suggestions for
non-mystery fiction?
Thanks,
Lisa
