Your Question: I have been trying to remember the name of a book I read
about 5 years ago. It was a horror story that starts out with a mother
and her 13 year old son driving home in a blizzard. When they get home
there is someone or something in the house. Sorry I don't remember more,
but would really appreciate a title/author. I never finished the book
and would like to read it again. Thanks so much for your time.
I forgot to add that the son has a broken leg.

Tommy (who indeed has a broken leg) and his mother are driving home in a blizzard, when they reach their house (in the deep dark woods, wouldn't you know...) they find it's been overtaken by biologically engineered rats. (oh yeah, not only do they live in the deep dark woods, their closest neighbor is a genetic engineering lab.)
Hope that's the one!
