I'm not sure where I got this from but these are helpers, or "standard"
questions for any book -
Start by asking the basic who/why/what type questions. For example:
Who wrote the book?
What do we know about him or her?
Who are the key characters?
What do the characters do?
What is the book about?
When was the book written?
When does it take place?
Where does it take place?
What did you like or dislike and why?
Why did the characters do the things they did? How do you feel about the
characters?
How did the book effect you?
Compare and contrast with other books by the same author or other books you
have read. How does the book relate to current events and your lives?
Specifically for this book, I think it begs the question was Cal right in
taking the book in the first place and/or what would you have done had
someone taken your life story and turned it into a novel. You could also
get into the relationship with his wife, how do you build a relationship on
a lie sort of thing. The hippie chick blackmailer (sorry, I don't remember
her name)- was there any other way he could have dealt with her. I think
the way he built suspense was just masterful - how does that compare with
other thrillers you've read. And then there is the ultimate question - is
Colapinto Cal? He had a best selling nonfiction book prior to this one, but
there has been nothing since, no new novel or even the hint of one.
John is a terrific guy and if you'd like to ask him anything, I can give you
his email, just let me know off list.
Have fun!
