My patron read a mystery series, has forgotten the author, title and has
lost his notes. Here's the story: Setting is a small town in the NE on the
Canadian border (perhaps Maine?). Characters include a priest, the county
attorney and some French Canadians as the story moves back and forth across
the border. One of the townspeople is usually guilty of murder. He says
this is somewhat like an English Village mystery. I've searched the usual
spots with no luck. If you recognize this series, please let me know.

Could these be William Kritlow's Lake Champlain mysteries -- Crimson Snow
(1995), Fire on the Lake (1996), Blood Money (1997)?
