My favorite villian is Mrs Coulter from the His Dark Materials trilogy by
Philip Pullman. She and Lord Asriel are great in that they alternate
between being villians and heroes, it all depends on ones point of view.

We have a book called "The Great Villains" by Janet Pate, c. 1975
that lists villains from stage, screen, and literature. Some of
the villains include: Cruela De Vil from The Hundred and One

Jeff Rovin's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SUPER-VILLAINS from Facts on File
Publishers might also be useful. The books in this series by
him tend to concentrate on comic book and television etc. characters
but if I recall do involve some entries from at least the popular
side of prose literature as well.
