Dear Friends,

Patron is looking for a picture book that is a modern day retelling of
sleeping beauty. The lady down the street (witch) is not invited to the
birth party and casts a spell on the baby. The parents try to keep their
daughter away from anything sharp, but she does prick her finger on a
phonograph needle (the patron thinks). She is eventually awaken by a cute,
young guy.

Patron is a staff member who insists she has seen this book at our library.
We have pulled everything with sleeping beauty in keyword and have not found
it. Any suggestions? She is sharing retellings of fairy tales to her book
discussion group and hopes to include this one.

There's one called "Sleepless Beauty" where a modern sleeping
beauty pricks her finger on a phonograph.

Your patron might be looking for "Sleepless Beauty" by Frances Minters.
Beauty isn't a baby and manages to outwit the witch by setting her clock
radio. It is a fun store with great illustrations.
