I have released a book into the wild after registering on the site. Whoever
found it, didn't post anything to the site, though.

We've also had a couple of instances of patrons trying to check out books
that people had released in the library, which caused all kinds of
confusion!
I really love the idea though.

My experience has been similar. I did get an interesting e'mail note from a fellow Bookcrosser in the area, though. My guess is that it helps if a certain "critical mass" of people in an area become involved.
