RUSA announces first annual Awards Recognition Reception
The Collection Development and Evaluation Section (CODES) of theReference
and User Services Association (RUSA), is hosting its firstannual Awards
Recognition Reception on Sunday, January 11, 2004, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30
p.m., at the American Library Association (ALA) MidwinterMeeting in San
Diego, Calif. The reception will be held on the topfloor of the Bristol
Hotel, in the Starlight Ballroom, which has aretractable ceiling that
opens to reveal the sky, and wonderful views of the bay and city.
NoveList, a product of EBSCO Publishing, is sponsoring the event.
During the reception, the winners of the 2004 Notable Books List and
Outstanding Reference Sources awards will be announced. The Notable Books
List, also known as "The List for America's Readers," iscomprised of
twenty-five works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books selected for
their significant contribution to the expansion ofknowledge, or for the
pleasure they provide to adult readers. The Outstanding Reference Sources
is a recommended list of the best reference publications for small and
medium-sized academic and public libraries. An annotated list of selected
outstanding reference works is published annually in the May issue of
American Libraries. The list is also included in the Reference & User
Services Quarterly (RUSQ) and posted on the RUSA Web site.
Other award announcements include the recipients of the 2004 Dartmouth
Medal and the Louis Shores-Greenwood Publishing Group Award. The
Dartmouth medal, donated by Dartmouth College, is given for creating
current reference works of outstanding quality and significance. The
Louis Shores-Greenwood Publishing Group Award is a cash award of $3,000,
donated by the Greenwood Publishing Group, and citation given to an
individual, team or organization to recognize excellence in the reviewing
of books and other materials for libraries.
RUSA, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is devoted to
supporting the delivery of reference/information services to all groups
and of general library services to adults. Its 5,000 members represent
all types of libraries.
