Another thread: there's a common trope in fantasy and horror fiction
about a mysterious shop that sells mysterious things, which usually
work out badly for unwary buyers. Most of these are short stories,
some of which were collected in this old pb anthology:

I just got in from a long weekend....hope I'm not too late to join in the
thread.
For fantasy in a historical setting, Midori Snyder's book, The Innamorati
For short story, Daphne Du Mauier - Don't Look Now (later made into a
movie with Donald Sutherland)
For historical mystery, a series by Elizabeth Eyre - Dirge for a Doge
1997, Axe for an abbot 1996, Bravo for the bride 1995, Poison for the
prince 1994, Curtains for the cardinal 1993, Death of the duchess 1992.

Subject: Author who kills people off & not a mystery

I have a patron who is looking for an author who has
written about 8 books or so. She can remember the
plots of two of them.
In the first, a boy & girl grow up next door to each
other. They planned to get married but she got
pregnant, and became depressed. She asked him to kill
her so they went to a carousel at night, and he shot
her.
In the second, a husband and wife were very close,
with no friends. She's dying of cancer, and asks him
to kill her. So he places a pillow over her head.
She said both books start out with the death, and then
tell how the characters got to that point.
Thanks!

Hi All,
A patron is looking for a folk or fairy tale she read about 3 years ago.
The plot involves 3 farm families who are neighbours to each other. All
the families share chores and the stream which runs by each of their
houses. All the children play together and everything is in harmony. One
day Authority rides into the farming community on horseback and orders
fences be built between the farms. The children can no longer play
together and each of the farms become part of three different countries.
Patron thinks the story is from Central or South America.
Any takers?
Thanks for your help!
