This is for me. I am looking for the author of a series I read a few titles
from not too long ago, though the titles are probably not new. There are 3
titles at leat 9i think0, the main character is a married female with
children (ALSO involved with a cop, yikes) who writes and the most recent
title takes place at some Breadloaf-like writers retreat. As I remember,
the setting is California.

This sounds like you might have confused the Lora Roberts mysteries that
feature two separate protagonists. The first series is the Liz Sullivan
series that take place in Palo Alto. Liz was in prison for killing an
abusive husband and was homeless until she inherited a little house and
over the series has developed a relationship with a cop. The second
series features her friend Bridget Montrose, who has a passel of kids,
and the last book ANOTHER FINE MESS, takes place at a writer's retreat
on the California coast.
