PEACE LIKE A RIVER by Leif Enger was chosen as Iowa's ALL IOWA READS
book choice. The mayor of my city came to me and asked the true
pronunciation of "Leif" as he uses it. I have not been able to find
anything in all of the interviews I've searched through regarding the
pronunciation of his name. Can anyone enlighten me? You can respond
off-list.

I checked HarperCollins.com to listen to a clip of the audio and they
pronounce it with a long A sound. You can listen to it on the Harper
Audio site:

Just search for the title and then click on 'audio excerpt'

During a literary event I attended, this author spoke about his work. He
was kind enough to tell the audience how to pronounce his name. (The most
asked question for him.)
He described it thus: lay-f.
