BookBrowser finds a new home! This week BookBrowser.com will become part of
Barnes & Noble.com. Seven years ago I asked for some feedback from Fiction-L
on a project I was doing at library school. Your responses, your support,
and your steadfast enthusiasm for that project led to the development of
BookBrowser: The Guide for Avid Readers. Cindy and I have enjoyed working on
BookBrowser, adding new features, designing new sections and, most of all,
meeting and sharing ideas with other librarians. The site has grown
exponentially over the years and has now become so large and the traffic so
overwhelming that we can no longer keep up with it by ourselves.
We are very happy to have found a home for BookBrowser where so many of the
features we love will be continued. Cindy and I will be working with Barnes
& Noble.com as Consulting Librarians to develop new features and new
services for their soon-to-be-launched Librarian's Bookstore. We are very
excited about working with them to create a special place where librarians
can order "spot buys", get great discounts and, with the very cool
BookBrowser search engine, find just the right book for patrons. The
BookBrowser search engine is both a search function and a very in-depth menu
driven subject index. I think you will be impressed with the depth of the
indexing - you'll find it later this week at www.BookBrowser.com. We were
thrilled to see so many fiction subgenres and detailed subject headings,
including fiction by locale and time period. This type of subject cataloging
is, of course, very dear to our hearts! As we will be helping to develop
this feature we would love to hear your thoughts and impressions. Cindy and
I will both be at ALA in Philadelphia this week and we would love to meet
you all in person. Please come by the Barnes & Noble.com booth (#1459) and
say hello.
Again - thank you all for 7 wonderful years!

We are hoping that you keep working with BB. Your talents, creativity and
commitment to FICTION made the BookBrowser one of the BEST Fiction
reference tools for many of us librarians who had to work with SO little
available information on fiction by subject.

Robin, I see I have in you a buyer for my massive bibliography, if I can
ever get the blasted thing finished! There are scads of series in it, old
and new. (Query: would it be against our rules for me to announce here when
it is available?)

Well, I clicked on my Favorites bookmark, and ended up at B&N. Couldn't
even *find* any of the BookBrowser lists! Where are they?
