A friend of mine has a library trustee who is looking for this children's book. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I am looking for the name of a book that I remember from my childhood. The book is about a family of children who are left alone for the summer after their housekeeper is unexpectedly called away suddenly. The children end up inventing a sauce that is made from ketchup, grape juice, etc. and vitamin samples of their father's (he is some type of traveling salesman). They end up selling this sauce to the local grocer until the vitamins run out. The book probably would have been written between 1940 and 1980.
The kids live by a pond and go turtle hunting with rotting meat that they get from the local store (same place they end up selling the sauce). Everyone in town loves the sauce because it acts as an elixir (because of the vitamins).
the book was aimed at younger than young adult, but not a picture book. It was some sort of juvenile novel.

Undoubtedly WHILE MRS. COVERLET WAS AWAY, by Mary Nash. There is a whole
series about the four children and their various escapades.
