A pilot/patron is looking for a short story written in the late 1950's or 1960's about what he believes was a military airplane or jet. As the plane waited through multiple delays, the density altitude changed. The pilot no longer had the amount of runway needed for take-off; by the time he released the brakes, the flight was already doomed.
This patron has worked with many librarians, searched the Short Story Index, and has done general web searching. He remembers the story as Richard Bach-like. This might be a real stumper, but I told him I would query the wonderful minds and voracious readers on this list.
