I took home the first book of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony
Snicket after reading the thread on RA suggestions for college students. I
have not worked in children's services for three years so was feeling out of
the loop. I thought the style read like R. L. Stine as to sentence
structure and sense of humor. Can someone with access to OCLC authority
records tell me who Lemony Snicket really is?

Even without OCLC authority, his name is David
Handler. www.lemonysnicket.com has information about both of them.

Lemony Snicket has published a new book entitled, "Lemony Snicket, the
unauthorized autobiography," which is for sale. That might have the
information you're looking for.

According to WilsonWeb, Lemony Snicket, really Daniel Handler, is a 32
year-old (or he turns 32 later this year) from San Francisco who graduated
from Wesleyan College, and in addition to the Series of Unfortunate Evebts,
has published two adult books under his own name; The Basic Eight (1999)
and Watch Your Mouth (2000).

There is an article about Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snicket) in the
upcoming Entertainment Weekly that has the Top 10 Ways to Fix TV on the
cover (sorry, my copy is at home so I can't get you the date but libraries

It is Daniel Handler. There is a short article about him in Book Magazine
- Jan/Feb 2002 issue on page 35. This issue highlighted many newcomers to
the literary scene. He is 31 years old. This month the "Lemony Snicket:
The Unauthorized Autobiography" was published. I hear that it is very
funny...
