Award winning book

She thinks the author is Scandinavian or has a
Scandinavian sounding name, that the book may be part
of a series, it is set in the middle ages and may have
midwives in the title or in the book.
Karen Cushman's children's book title The Midwife's
Apprentice sort of seemed familiar to her but she's
sure the book was an adult title.
Any thoughts?

I have a patron who's looking for an award winning
book. She thinks it won a Pulitzer for fiction
although scanning the list of winners didn't ring any
bells for her. So the award could be something else
(we did look at the Bookers and National Book Awards).

This was it. I was thrown by the dates, she thought
it had won an award in the last few years. Thanks for
the quick response. She was still in the library so I
was able to send her home with it.

Could she be thinking of Sigrid Undset's trilogy, "Kristin Lavransdatter"?
A very moldy oldie, but a classic. Undset won the 1928 Nobel for the body
of her work, which may be what your patron is thinking of.

One of the things that I learned in library school that has served me well
over the years is that "the patron is always wrong". If the patron says the
book is new, it is old. If they say it is set in Africa, it is set in Asia.
In other words, never take for granted that the patron knows what he or she
is talking about (without being offensive, of course). It opens your mind
to all the possibilities.

My version of this is "Don't trust a patron unless they have the actual
review or article in their hand."
