From the jacket: When her husband is killed fighting in the First World
War, Alix takes her baby daughter Caro back to Queensland--the windswept,
majestic land that is her heritage--to begin a new life and to follow old
dreams. But it is Caro who will ultimately fulfill Alix's dream of bringing
medical care to this haunting, secretive country by becoming a pilot and
nurse in the newly formed flying doctor service on the eve of World War II.

per Booklist Review:
A realistic tale of adventurous spirits and courageous acts. Spanning two world wars, the novel traces the private and professional careers of Alix and Caro, mother and daughter, who pursue their respective dreams of bringing adequate medical aid to the aboriginal peoples of Australia's Queensland wilderness. Each woman faces many complications, obstacles, and personal conflicts--all of which will hold the reader's attention. The language is convincing and the situations entertaining.
The Publishers Weekly review mentions that Caro is a pilot as well as nurse in WWII.
