Our mystery book group is meeting next month at a local horse farm and
we would like to read a mystery with a "horse" theme. Most of us have
already read many books by Dick Francis so we would like to choose
another author. The book does need to be "in-print" and available in
paperback since we buy paperback copies for all of the members.

One popular, yet sadly uncirculated, mystery novel
author, for young adult girls would be Walter Farley.
He wrote a series of novels called "The Black
Stallion."

I didn't reply earlier as request was specifically for titles known to
be currently in print in paperback, but since it seems to have broadened
to everyone's favorite horse mysteries, I'll add the (not currently in
print) SHOW STOPPER by Mary Monica Pulver, which involves murder at a
horse show. (Her earlier THE UNFORGIVING MINUTES has quite a bit of
horsiness in it, too, but not much detection.)

For readers liking Dick Francis and John Francome, some other similar authors
are Mark Daniel, Michael Maguire, and Richard Pitman. I have no idea of their
"print" staus. The last two are older publications.

One is Anne McCaffrey's RING OF FEAR, which is really a romantic suspense
which takes place in the upstate New York-Saratoga horsey set. The other is
BLUEGRASS by Borden Deal, set in Kentucky.

I'm sure I'm too late with this - but I thought of two other possible
choices
for your "mysteries with horses."
One is Anne McCaffrey's RING OF FEAR, which is really a romantic suspense
which takes place in the upstate New York-Saratoga horsey set. The other is
BLUEGRASS by Borden Deal, set in Kentucky.
