Possible audiobook program
|
FROM: Mary K Chelton <mchelton@optonline.net>
REC'D: 3/28/02, 9:16 AM
Their National Sales Director, Jim Schmidt, told me that they are interested
in replicating this program at regional conferences and public library
system staff development days. I know they brought a narrator from their
Griot line of titles to the Pennsylvania Library Association last fall
because I was in the room next to them. They do not want to do this for
every individual stand alone public library in the country, but for larger
gatherings, please contact Jim Schmidt at james.schmidt7@gte.net. Feel free
to tell him you read this from me.
On a personal note, please do NOT program this at dinner, unless you wait
until dessert is served. PLA had 4 people presenting at their Sizzlin'
Supper, and Guidall had to read over the clanging of dinner plates and
silverware as opposed to silence and an appreciate audience at the
preconference. He also was not given enough time at the dinner to discuss
the production of the audiobooks and his own preparation to read them, which
is the heart of this presentation.
I do not work for Recorded Books, but as an audiobook reader/listener, I
find that they do just about everything right, hence the bias. Also, I would
like other people to have the nice experience we did at the RA preconference
in Phoenix

Recorded Books brought George Guidall, their premiere narrator, to our PLA
Readers Advisory preconference to discuss how he does it personally (he's
read over 800 different titles) and how Recorded Books produces the
audiobooks they rent and sell. He was superb!

Mary K. and everyone: I wish I could have been there! I LOVE Recorded
Books, and I've met George before. He IS a fantastic reader! I would like
to know how he does it!
I want to know if anyone has any current info on Frank Muller and his
condition, after his accident. I can't find anything recent, online or
otherwise. Thanks, Julie A. Roberts roberju@rolling-meadows.lib.il.us

Our committee did have several philosophical discussions about 1 vendor
presenting, but felt as Mary K does that Recorded Books does "just about
everything right."
