We are in the early planning stages for a renovation and possible expansion
project for our library. We have been visiting libraries looking for
innovative ideas for library structure and services. Could anyone recommend
any libraries that have done a recent expansion/renovation that would be
worth looking at/knowing about? Something in the New England area would be
ideal, but we'd like to know about any particularly innovative structures
that are out there.

In case you're interested, the demise of Food Lion in the south has been a
bonanza for libraries across North Texas. If you're able to visit, there are
at least five renovated Food Lions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that are
worth looking at. Our library got a recent mention by an Italian architect
who was lecturing at Dallas Public Library about libraries of the future,
who said this was one of the best uses of library space he had seen recently
(not to be bragging or anything!!).

The entire Seattle Public Library system is
currently undergoing extensive renovations and
rebuilds. We are building a new central library,
several new branches, and renovating every branch
