Could this possibly be the old novel by Marcia Davenport, MY BROTHER'S KEEPER? Based on a true story, it's the story of the Collyer (sp?) brothers. One of the brothers saved old newspapers for the day his blind brother would be cured and could read them. When the authorities entered the mansion, they had to tunnel through the papers to find the bodies. Or something like this anyway. Trying to do this from memory.

An aside to this: I've been doing library Outreach for 21 years and can
count at least 5 such hoarders among past clients. No bodies as far as I
know, except for the occasional rodent. The first time really threw me -
going through the maze-like path from the door to the one chair where the
client sat was other-worldly. I've since come to realize that more people
that I'd like to admit have inexplicable hoarding tendencies. It's made me
a compulsive de-clutterer for sure!

All this talk about fictional characters hoarding newspapers reminds me of
the wonderful movie "Housekeeping," based on the book by Marilynne Robinson.
Although Sylvie's newspaper collection was only one of her eccentricities.
