Please help with title/author.
A married couple came in to browse in the Mystery section for a book they
had read a couple of years ago. After they described it, I wondered if it
really was a "Mystery."
They said it was a "sweet" story. Chapters are entitled with names of
herbs. Patron also mentioned the term "new age."
Plot: A young man goes to New York state to sell a supposedly abandoned
property owned by his father and located on a lake. His parents are divorced.
There he meets an old lady (his aunt?) and a young lady (who is into herbs).
Later he finds his mother living in a cabin around the lake.
Sound familiar?

This sounds like Dorothy Gilman's Thale's Folly, although I confess I
don't remember discovering the mother at the lake. The house belonged to
a eccentric aunt; the squatter's were her friends, and there is a young
woman into herbs.
