Hello,
I hope someone will be able to provide a title for the book that is
described here! It may have been published in 1999 but I am not sure.
The plot involves a writer with writer's block who moves to the English
countryside to free his mind. His wife goes with him although I do not
recall her vocation. The protagonist believes he has seen an original
and unknown oil painting by Bruegal in his neighbor's house. He thinks
he can buy the masterpeice for pennies from his neighbor who is just an
"ignorant farmer". He becomes obsessed with obtaining the painting and
ends up becoming quite involved in the neighbor's life-- and his wife
and does not, I think, get a lot of writing done. Quite a bit of art
history is woven through the story.
Does this sound familar to anyone? I appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Emily
