Hi! I'm looking for the title of a short story I read several years
ago...about a group of children who are genetically engineered so that
they don't sleep. These children are more joyful, smarter, and
healthier than regular children; but they encounter all sorts of
social/political/discrimination problems as they grow up. I came across
this story in a collection of short stories, but I believe it is
actually a small part of a trilogy....is this ringing any bells?

Is this it? I typed "children genetically engineered sleep story"
into Google and this was the first hit:

"Beggars in Spain" by Nancy Kress (1992 Hugo Novella, 1991 Nebula
Novella) - first published in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction
Magazine April 1991

An excellent work. In the near future, some children are genetically
engineered to function without sleep. (My daughter is almost capable
of this now, or at least seems to expect her parents to do so.) Of
course the sleepless turn out to be geniuses and draw the suspicion
and wrath of the rest of the world upon them. (2 August 2000)
