Dear Fiction_lers,
Sorry to stray from fiction, but we are looking for
help and I suggested Fiction_L as the best source for
info. Does anyone out there have a policy in writing
for the systematic purchasing of encyclopedias that
they would be willing to share? We have 4 sites that
get encyclopedias and we'd like to avoid unnecessary
purchases. Does anyone know how much is really
updated
every year? Please respond directly to me and not to

Our Library keeps encyclopedias for 4-5 years and purchases the different
titles on a rotating basis, so that one of the sets is always new. I do not
have a definitive answer to the question of how much is "new" in an
encyclopedia each year, but I seem to remember that it was stated some years
back as being less than 5% of the total.

Yes, this is our policy as well. We buy on a rotating basis every four to
five years. However, with the CD-ROM products available now, as well as
reference sites on the web, we have gotten rid of two sets we used to buy. I
don't think we could ever not buy World Book, but we are debating not buying
Encyclopedia Brittanica.
