Altho' I haven't read them, the first one I think of is the mystery
series by Carol Lea Benjamin: The Alexander and Dash mystery
series. Features a women NY detective and her pet pit bull terrier.

Besides the others mentioned there is Laurien Berenson - her character is Melanie Travis who has a confirmation standard poodle Faith. The dogs in the other mysteries do obedience and maybe a little bit of agility

If I remember the original post correctly, the requester asked
specifically for a female detective. Altho' the main female character
in the Sue Henry books ends up doing detective work, her career is
as a musher. Her boyfriend in the 1st of the 4 or 5 books, is a
Alaska state trooper. That's how she get involved with the crimes.
Also, the relationship with her lead dog Tank (funny how I
remember the dog's name but not the character's name! --
obviously a dog owner myself) doesn't really develop until the 3rd or
4th books.
Altho' they are good books, I say they would not fit the
requirements.

I once had obedience classes with a wolf hybrid in it and it wasn't fun. My keeshond and I had to had to work next to it because Ivy was never appeared threatening to the hybrid.

Saw these recently when a patron donated a few. Cute covers and titles. Any
dog/cat mysteries are very popular here.
